A Comparative Study of the Effect of Oral Prostaglandin E2 and Intravenous Oxytocin Infusion on Neonatal Hyperbilirubinemia

Abstract
|

|
This study is to evaluate the effect of intravenous oxytocin infusion and/or oral prostaglandin E2 used for stimulating labor on neonatal hyperbilirubineniia, which developed within the third postpartum day.
A comparative study was carried out retrospectively with 49 patients of control group, 46 patients of oxytocin group and 28 patients of prostaglandin E2 and oxytocin group who were selected among obstetrical inpatients admitted from January to March, 1985, at Sejong General Hospital in Puchon City, Korea.
As a result, I found there were no significant difference in birth weight, Apgar score and the incidence of neonatal hyperbilirubinemia (>10mg %) among the groups.
